少し長めの文で、リンキングの聴き取り練習をしてみよう。
1)
( ) ( ) met ( ) ( ) the library, I gave ( ) ( ) description ( ) ( ) nutshell of my new plan.
When I met Glen at the library, I gave him a description in a nutshell of my new plan.
When+Iのところにリンキング。Glen+at、him+a、in+aのところにも、それぞれリンキング。Geln at the libraryのところが特に聞き取りづらいと思います。繰り返し聞いて、がんばって慣れてください。
グレンに図書館で会った時、私は自分の新しい計画を簡潔に彼に説明した。*in a nutshellは「簡単に、簡潔に」という意味の表現。
2)英・米
A: So, it’s horrible if I stay? B: If you stay up all night and talk to me like last time, it is.
Aのhorrible+if、if+I、そして、BのIf+you、up+all, time+itのところにも、それぞれリンキング。
A：じゃあ、僕がここにいたらまずいかな？B: もし君が一晩中起きていて、この前みたいに僕に話しかけてきたら、そうなるね。*stay upは「（寝ずに）起きている」という意味。Bのit isの後にはhorribleが省略されている。
3)
A: Ouch! B: What?! A: You stepped on my thumb.
Bのstepped onのところにリンキング。
A：痛い! B:どうしたの？ A：私の親指踏んだわよ。*thumbは「親指」。
4)英
He’s auditioning for a part and he has to get really mad in it.
「mad in」と「in it」のところにリンキング。
彼はある役のオーディションを受けていて、その中で本気で怒らなければならないんです。
